The climate in a tropical rainforest is 20-29° C all year round. This rainforest rains a lot! The yearly rainfall ranges from 200 cm – 1000 cm.

Plants & Adaptations

Rubber Trees

Rubber trees do not lean over much because of their strong roots. This tree grows best in filtered sunlight (tropical rainforests). It can also survive in very dry weather, despite its wet habitats.

Amorphophallus Titanium

This plant has a really long name, and it is also really smelly. It looks like a close up flower from a far distance. It can be as tall as 9 feet, and can be up to 170 lb!

Kapok

This tree is humongous! The kapok tree can grow up to 200 feet tall, and the trunk alone can be 9 or 10 feet across. It is used as stuffing in the pillows, mattresses, and can be a substitute fir absorbent cotton in surgery.

Animal & Adaptations

Jaquars

Though this animal may seem like it’s supposed to be in the savanna desert, it’s habitat is actually in the tropical rainforest. Jaguars are fierce predators! They can kill humans quite easily. Their top speed is 80 km per hour. They have a mass of 96 kg at most. Jaguars’ lifespan is 12-15 years. This animal’s scientific name is Panthera Onca.

Squirrel Monkeys

Squirrel monkeys are very lively, and has a diet of mainly fruits, insects, flowers and nectar. They can live up to 25 years, and their scientific name is Samiri.

Anacondas

This snake eats its prey by first by killing it by squeezing it to death, then swallows it whole. Anacondas eat pigs, deer, birds, fish, and much more. They live for about 10 years, and their scientific name is Eunectes murinus.
