Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is one of the latest movies released by Marvel Studios. The film starts by explaining what the Ten Rings are, and who possessed them, Wenwu. The Ten Rings gave the possessor power and eternal life. Nobody knew how he got the rings. He could have used them for good, but Wenwu used them to create an army called the Ten Rings. He gained steady power until he found the entrance of Ta Lo, which is said to have mythical creatures.
Wenwu wanted to dominate the village, but a woman guarding it refused. The founder of the Ten Rings was not happy, so he decided to fight. Wenwu got beaten up, but somehow married the woman, whose name was Ying Li. She gave birth to two children, Shang-Chi and Xu Xialing, and gave them pendants before dying to a gang of people who call themselves the “Iron Gang”. Wenwu started training Shang-Chi in martial arts before sending him to kill the master of the Iron Gang. After completing the mission, Shang-Chi escaped all the way to America, and met someone called Katy, who eventually became his best friend.
One day, they were in a bus when people from the Ten Rings went in. They spotted the pendant around Shang-Chi’s neck, and demanded for it. Shang-Chi disagreed, and that started the “Bus Fight”. A YouTuber was playing the scene and posting it live on YouTube. Shang-Chi easily defeated the people, but met a lean guy with one hand replaced with an iron sword. Shang-Chi managed to survive, but lost the pendant. He knew where they were going next: to Xialing, so they would get her pendant.
Shang-Chi and Katy took a plane, and arrived in China. They found Xialing at an underground fight club in Macau. Shortly after, the Ten Rings arrived to take the pendant from Xialing. They sneakily succeeded again, but Shang-Chi tracked the person down. He was about to kill the man, but a burst of lighting held him back. Shang-Chi turned to see his father smiling at him. Wenwu smiled, and took his two children to his place, The Ten Rings.
Wenwu used the pendants to reveal a map to Ta Lo. He explained why they were here. Apparently, he had been hearing his wife’s voice, calling to him to be rescued behind a gate. He would attack Ta Lo and burn the village unless they release her. When Wenwu’s children object, he locks them up in a prison. Shang-Chi and Katy meet an actor named Trevor, with his faceless pet, Morris. Meanwhile, Xialing found an escape tunnel that lead straight to the garage. They took a car and set off, with Morris and Trevor guiding them towards Ta Lo in “The Pocket”.
The group met Ying Nan, Shang-Chi’s aunt, who revealed the history of Ta Lo, and the Dweller-in-Darkness. The monster was about to take over the village when a Chinese dragon known as the Great Protector saved them and locked it behind a black gate. Ying Nan believed that the Dweller-in-Darkness was impersonating Li so Wenwu would come and break the gate in mad desperation. So, Ying Nan ordered the village to prepare for battle.
The Ten Rings arrived, and attacked. Wenwu forced Shang-Chi into the lake, and starts damaging the gate with his rings. This allows some of the Dweller’s minions to escape. The Ten Rings join forces with Ta Lo to stop the Dweller-in-Darkness. The Great Protector revived Shang-Chi, who went for battle against Wenwu. But the Dweller-in-Darkness had broken free.
Wenwu, having realised his mistake, handed the Ten Rings to the possession of Shang-Chi shortly before his soul got sucked out. His son used the rings to good use. The terrifying monster was about to eat the Great Protector’s soul when Katy shot an arrow right at the Dweller-in-Darkness’s throat, releasing its prey. This allowed the Great protector, Shang-Chi, Xialing and Katy to defeat the monstrous creature that had nearly dominated the entire universe. Afterward, Shang-Chi and Katy return to San Francisco, where Wong summons them to Kamar-Taj. Wong told them the journey had only begun.
